Culture as medicine

Just as in every country the food and kitchen should be learnt about, because they have a specific value for that climate and way of life in that country, in the same way, the customs and traditions in every country may serve as means for the inhabitants to deal with the environment, the climate and other local issues. In a way both food and other traditions and customs can be like medicines appropriate for a particular region. Unfortunately, when climate, environment and other local issues change, the creativity in which people adjust their customs and traditions, or invent new customs and traditions, as a response to such changes, seems often to be sadly limited.

  1. Hi Luang Phi,

Adaptation will and does occur as every cell in your body is unconsciously trying to find the middle ground or balance. Each cell is so intelligent that is constantly doing every job to seek normalcy. We always need to work on ourselves to know and become who we truly are, while following our Triple Gem Path, yet a parallel can be drawn here. We do what we can to create and adapt for our body and for life. Yet there are 250,000 energy pathways linking our body, mind, emotions and Spiritual energy pathways that work to help us achieve balance and harmony on every level on our path of The Triple Gem towards Nibbana, no matter where we live. All will be well Luang Phi. We all have a calling and a commitment in this life to follow the Triple Gem, and that will surely nourish us on every level. Take heed my teacher and friend. All will be well na ka. Ask your Sangha in a Buddhist politically correct way such as, speaking to your group on a hinting level by saying things like, "We appreciate your food and medicines that you offer us Bhikkhus, however the Lord Buddha has stated that monks should not use knives to cut food. We Bhikkhus need to obey mealtime Precepts by having the food cut in small pieces, so that we can eat more Sacredly, to help us remain observant", or something to that effect. This way you are mentioning with asking in a polite way that the Lord Buddha has taught you. Do not worry, al will be well. I learned that teaching from Prakru Bhavanvithet Manikanto Bhikkhu. however you get my meaning about bringing up topics politely without directly asking for the food.
I will go red your other teachings now.
It is nice to hear from you Luang Phi:)

Phi Michael and I completed the one million monk novice ordination at one dollar per day for the whole time. I still edit, but more slowly, and I teach Dhamma on-line and donate Tamboon. Aow boon ma farg ka.
Luang Phi, I belong to blogger.com. Many seekers must find me, by googling me. Do you know how or if I can change it so my blog gets sent to my group, instead of me having to tell them to go read it on AmericanBuddhistLight - my blog being at blogger.com. Lynn Kelly uses Word Press where you pay for every little service, but that is expensive. Please let me know what you think I should do to have my blog get sent to other people. Thank you.
Ahnumotanaboon ka, Aow boon ma farg ka, Boon rak sa ka, Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu ka.

With best wishes after some time, I hope you are fine and everything is going good for you.

    Take care and Sadhu ka.

    Phi Jenny
